Mitt Romney Debates Himself – “Debate Romney” vs. “Real Romney”

VIDEO – The Mitt Romney who attended the debate with President Obama goes up against the actual Mitt Romney in this video.

Mitt Romney suddenly changed positions on many issues in order to score a “win” in his first debate with President Obama.  In all, it has been documented that Romney lied 27 times in 38 minutes during the first debate.

In the late stages of the primary, Romney’s own campaign warned us that, like an Etch-A-Sketch, he would shake everything he said during the primary away and pretend to be a moderate. That was in full display during the debate.  Romney deceived the viewers about everything from taxes and healthcare to military spending and energy policy.

President Obama was off his game during the debate and at times seemed stunned and unprepared to react to the overt lies being told onstage by his challenger.  The few times Obama did call Romney out on his lies, Romney simply denied he was lying (but did not back up the statement with any facts).  It was a strategy that worked in the short term because the media and the American people declared him the clear “winner” of the debate.  But his short-term victory in the polls is proving to be short-lived as the public and media easily uncovered Romney’s untruths and fact-checked his statements.

Romney lied about statistics, quoted numbers from studies produced by partisan right-wing groups, and completely distorted the president’s record.  But the most obvious examples of what a phony Mitt Romney is are the things he said during that debate that were the complete opposite of what he has said all throughout his campaign.

Here are the ones he used to deceive the debate audience that are highlighted in the video of Romney “debating himself”:

  1. DEBATE ROMNEY: “I will not reduce the taxes paid by high income Americans.”

REAL ROMNEY: “We’re going to cut taxes on everybody across the country by twenty percent, including the top 1 percent.”

  2. DEBATE ROMNEY: “I reject the idea that I don’t believe in great teachers or more teachers.

“REAL ROMNEY: ” [Obama] says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers.  Did he not get the message of Wisconsin??  The American people did.  It’s time for us to cut back on government.”

  3. DEBATE ROMNEY: “Pre-existing conditions are covered under my plan.”

REAL ROMNEY: “You’ve got to get insurance when you’re well, and then if you get ill you’re going to be covered.”
