VIDEO – The 2012 Republican budget proposal written by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) sought to end Medicare and turn it into a voucher program. Under Paul Ryan’s plan, after a lifetime of contributing to Medicare, seniors would no longer get guaranteed health care. Instead, they would be given a coupon to go and find their own private health insurance.
The Republican budget proposal for 2012, written by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin), passed the GOP-controlled House on April 15, 2011, by a of 235-193 (all Democrats and five Republicans voted against it). A month later, Democrats killed the budget in the Senate.
Mitt Romney has fully embraced Ryan’s plan saying, “I spent a good deal of time with Congressman Ryan. When his plan came out, I applauded it, as an important step. … We’re going to have to make changes like the ones Paul Ryan proposed.”
