VIDEO – Mitt Romney is secretly taped telling a group of wealthy donors that 47% of the American people will vote for President Obama because “they are dependent on government, who believe they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them…”
This is the real Mitt Romney. A man who was born rich, who has never had a financial worry in his life, and thinks that those who need any kind of assistance whatsoever just “don’t believe in personal responsibility”. Mitt Romney’s supposed 47% of people who don’t pay income taxes because they don’t make enough income includes: senior citizens on Medicare and social security, military men and women fighting in Afghanistan, disabled people, working single mothers who use food stamps to help them feed their children, and everyone else who has ever needed a hand up when times are tough. Mitt Romney looks down “those people” and says he is not worried about “those people”. But, “those people” pay sales tax, payroll tax (Medicare, Social Security), and some pay property tax. Oh, and “those people” can vote.
This was a candid moment when Romney thought he could speak freely to a group of others like himself. He was lamenting to this group of elite rich people that he could not sell his proposals to lower their taxes to “those people”, that he would have to work the low-information independent voters who vote on, as Romney says, “emotion, whether they like a guy or not”.
It comes as no surprise that Mitt Romney cares nothing about most of the country and that he works for the ultra-rich donors who attend $50,000 per plate fundraisers such as the one in this video. He had a slip back in February in which he said he was “not concerned about the very poor”. At the time he explained it away; just another one of his “gaffes” that we have all come to expect.
But it should now be clear what Mitt Romney actually believes about the American people. Not only does he not care about the poor, but Mitt Romney does not care about the middle class or even the upper middle class. Mitt Romney looks down on half of the country and says they don’t believe in personal responsibility.
No, Mitt Romney isn’t out to show the American people he has a better plan for the average American because he doesn’t. He knows he has his base – the people who will vote for him because they hate Barack Obama – and he just needs to sway the 5 to 10 percent of voters who will vote on emotion or if they like a guy or not. He needs them to like him and vote on their emotions. And their emotions will be manipulated by countless ads, not about Romney, but negative ads about President Obama from Romney’s campaign, his super PAC, and the various other outside groups that are funded by billionaires. That will be, as he explains to his rich friends, his path to lowering their taxes while raising taxes on “those people”.
